Explosion on Quetta’s Sariab road, 3 police personnel injured
Three police personnel on routine patrol were injured in an explosion on Quetta’s Sariab road and have been shifted to the city’s Jinnah Hospital where emergency has been declared, DawnNews reported.
Security forces have cordoned off the area, while the nature of the explosion is yet to be determined.
Passenger beaten to death by minibus driver and conductor in Karachi
The driver and conductor of a minibus have been taken into custody after they beat a 30- year old man to death following a brawl over bus fare in Bahadrabad, Karachi on Tuesday.
The deceased identified as Abdul Rahman argued with bus conductor Umar Khan of route X-23 over fare when the vehicle was standing near the Bahadurabad roundabout. The bus driver, Arif Nawaz, intervened and the heated debated turned into a brawl, with the two badly thrashing Abdul Rahman, said the police.
“Rahman sustained serious head injuries which suggested that he was hit on the head multiple times with some heavy metal instrument,” said inspector Qamar Zeb Satti, the station house officer of the SITE B police station.
Woman in labor refused treatment, gives birth outside hospital
Sameera Bibi, who arrived at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) on Monday with severe labour pains, was forced to give birth outside the hospital when she was refused treatment by a lady health worker who told her that ” there were no doctors available at the hospital in the early hours of the morning.”
Bystanders told DawnNews that there were no Rescue 1122 ambulances at the hospital and one was called to the scene but by the time it arrived the child had already been born.
Punjab Minister for Health Khawaja Imran Nazir said the provincial ministry has ordered an inquiry into the incident. “No doctor or staff member involved in the incident will be spared and a committee has been formed to look into this matter,” he added.
US drone strike kills 31 on Pakistan-Afghanistan Frontier
A suspected United States drone strike killed 11 people at the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier on Tuesday- a day after another strike had killed 20, government and militant sources said.
The attacks that occurred on the Afghan side came days after a Canadian-American couple held hostage by the Taliban were freed from the area in Pakistan’s northwest marking a positive development in the country’s often tense relations with the US.
World Bank rectify mistake by revising external financing needs for Pakistan
Following a meeting with a Pakistani delegation led by Finance Secretary Shahid Mehmood, the World Bank on Monday admitted their mistake of wrongly projecting $31 billion in external financing needs for this fiscal year to cover the rising current account deficit and debt payments and lowered the estimate to $17 billion.
The revision comes after the bank agreed with the delegation that foreign portfolio investments were not part of the external financing needs of Pakistan, as it had earlier included them in the report.
Qatari man trying to smuggle falcons worth Rs50m gets arrested at Lahore airport
Hiding them in a large black bag, a Qatari national trying to smuggle nine falcons worth Rs50m was arrested at the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.
The director general of the Punjab Wildlife Department, Khalid Ghayas Khan, said the suspect, Ahmed Hussain Ali Muhammad-ul-Saada was arrested by a Vigilance Police squad headed by Deputy Director Gujranwala Abdul Shakoor Manj who took the action after receiving a “secret tip” about the man. The wildlife department has issued a challan to the arrested in accordance with the Punjab Wildlife Act 1974, said Khan.
National Accountability Commission bill rejected by PTI
A written statement on Tuesday by party senior Shireen Mazari on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf pointed out several flaws in and rejected the National Accountability Commission (NAC) bill, 2017.
Amongst other clauses, the party rejected setting seven years as minimum punishment for those retrieving the misappropriated money and objected to the clause relating to the release of an accused on bail if a trial is not completed within a year.
“The contents of the NAC bill show it does not introduce a single measure of reform that would improve the current accountability process or bring corrupt elements to task,” said Mazari. “[The bill] also does not say as to when the process of accountability shall begin,” she added.
