ECP drops contempt petitions against PTI chief, Imran Khan
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) nearly two weeks after the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants against him in connection with two contempt petitions.
The PTI counsel, Babar Awan, argued during the hearing that Khan had apologized twice for his comments-once in January and once in September. Keeping that in mind, the contempt petitions were unjustified.
The ECP, on Thursday, dropped the two contempt petitions against Khan after accepting a written apology for his past remarks.
Khawaja Asif: Tillerson-Gillani meeting tells tales of US failures in Afghanistan
The meeting between United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the Bagram airbase speaks volumes of American failures, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif informed a Senate Standing Committee on Thursday.
Asif stated that “The Afghan president became a stranger in his own country and meeting Tillerson at the Bagram airbase.”
Asif further shed light on the fact that the meeting between Tillerson and Gilani had to take place inside the airbase despite the fact that the US has been present in Afghanistan for the past 16 years.
Sindh minister appoints DIG to look into alleged harassment case at Jomshoro University
Two female students of Jamshoro Sindh University on behalf of female students who are victims of harassment-wrote a letter addressed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abassi, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and the University’s Vice-Chancellor seeking assistance and asking that action be taken against the English department teachers.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hyderabad Javaid Alam Odho as an inquiry officer to look into the alleged harassment of students at the Jomshoro Sindh University by their teachers.
The DIG has been instructed to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report regarding the issue. He has also been directed to take the necessary legal actions to resolve the issue.
Senate forms committee regarding ‘missing’ PIA aircraft case
An investigation has been launched into the role of retired Air Commodore Imran Akhtar and Pakistan International Airlines’s (PIA) former CEO, Bernd Hildenbrand by a Senate Standing Committee on Thursday. The investigation will look into the sale of an aircraft to a German museum- a severe violation of procedures and laws.
Senator Farhatullah Babar accused Imran during the meeting for claiming to be unaware of the deal whereas he has prepared the summary to sell the aircraft.
Arrest warrant issued by Pakistani Court for disqualified Nawaz Sharif
An arrest warrant against disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was issued by the Pakistani court- after he failed to appear before accountable judges from National Accountability Bureau proceedings over charges of corruption that was revealed in the Panama Papers. This situation of being arrested can be avoided he if pays for a bail.
Currently, Sharif is out of country and NAB can issue him a non-bailable warrant that prompts his arrest as soon as he returns to Pakistan.
“We are going through a time in Pakistan where speaking up against injustice is called contempt of court and speaking up for the nation is called treason, but I still believe that we will be victorious,” Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz told the reporters.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf is leading the results of NA-4 in Peshawar
Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) latest data revealed that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) Arbab Amir Ayub is leading the race for the NA-4 constituency in Peshawar with 43,812 votes. Following him is Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Nasir Khan Musazai, who has received 23,827 votes so far.
The voter turnout is strong in the ruling urban areas of the constituency as compared to the rural areas. Votes from 258 polling stations have been counted and more are coming through. PTI’s by-poll popularity is observed in the province. To read more about the NA-4 click here.
Pakistani man arrested in Hungary over contract murder claims
Authorities in Pakistan had issued an international warrant for his arrest in connection with 70 deaths there, listing him as the country’s most-wanted person. Police said he was caught in a group of migrants being smuggled to Austria. The alleged professional gunman, aged 35, is said to be known as the “Pakistani Butcher”.
