Bus falls in ravine near Chakwal killing 24, injuring 67

Digestible News 01: A bus fell into a ravine near Dhoke Pathan village on Pindigheb-Talagang Road at around 9 pm on Wednesday night, killing 24 passengers and injuring 67. Rescue 1122 was the first response team to arrive at the accident scene, followed by a Chakwal operation team that arrived forty minutes later.

“The driver was unfamiliar with this area and he was running the bus at high speed. The bus fell into the ravine while it was passing through a slope,” Station House Officer Muhammad Afzal told DawnNews.

Digestible News 02: On Wednesday, the leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) stated that they’d be contesting the 2018 general elections under, “one name, one manifesto, one symbol and one party”. The two parties have put away their previous rivalries and announced the consolidation of their political forces.

During a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, MQM Pakistan chief Dr. Farooq Sattar said that “The modalities of this alliance will be decided in days to come”.

Shortly after the announcement, former president Pervez Musharraf welcomed the formation of a political alliance between the MQM and the PSP in a video shared on the official account of Musharraf’s political party- All Pakistan Muslim League (APML)

Nawaz indicted by court, plea for clubbing of NAB cases denied

Daily Digestible News 03: The accountability court denied an application filed by the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif for clubbing together the three references filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Sharif was called to the rostrum while the judge read out the charges against him following which he pled “not guilty” to all the charges.

The Sharif family members left the court after the hearing was adjourned until November 15.

Trump visits China, talks about N.Korea-US bitter relations  

Daily Digestible News 04: United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are currently on a tour of China with the former meeting with Chinese Leader Xi Jinping at the Forbidden City to discuss engagement of and building a global defense against North Korea’s nuclear threats.

Trump tweeted from Forbidden City to congratulate  Xi on his reappointment as China’s Communist Party chief, “I very much look forward to meeting with President Xi who is just off his great political victory.”

He also sent a message to North Korea via his Twitter, saying Pyongyang “has interpreted America’s past restraint as weakness. This would be a fatal miscalculation. Do not underestimate us.

Snapchat and Twitter introduce new features to their consumers 

 

Daily Digestible No 05: Technology is evolving and so are social media’s most used applications; Twitter and Snapchat as they recently introduced new updates to counter competition from Facebook.

The updates include Twitter increasing its 140-character limit for messages to a 280- character limit.  Meanwhile, in the coming days, Snapchat is going to surprise its consumer base with a revamped look, aimed at making it more user-friendly.

We don’t yet know how the behavior of our community will change when they begin to use our updated application,” said Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel.

Pakistan faces worst ever defeat in hockey against Australia

Daily Digestible No 06: In what is being deemed the worst defeat in the history of Pakistan’s national game Hockey, Pakistan team lost 1-9 to host team Australia in their first match of the International Festival of Hockey at Melbourne’s State Netball and Hockey Centre. Australia, the reigning world champions, dominated the possession of the ball throughout the game.

This defeat is even worse than Pakistan’s previous one when Holland defeated Pakistan 9-2 at the 2006 Champions Trophy in Terrassa, Spain. To read more details about the match, click here.
