With what are anticipated to be the most historic elections in the history of Pakistan, a lot of precautions have been taken to ensure fair and just elections. Arrangements have been made by Election Commission of Pakistan to guarantee a rigging free voting day. However, several complaints have been received in light of the July 25th 2018.
Two numbers have been dedicated for receiving complaints – 051-9225623 and 051-9225624.
Here are 5 complaints received by the ECP
1. Imran Khan’s vote might be cancelled
It was clearly specified by the commission that no vote will be documented on camera and no voter is allowed to take any technology with them inside the polling station. However, Imran Khan’s process was documented in front of the media and several of his representatives present. As a result of this violation, ECP took notice and has announced the possibility of his vote being cancelled.
2. Shabaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto and Khawaja Asif have also violated ECP code
Similarly, Shahbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto and Khawaja Asif’s conversation with the media also forced the ECP to take notice. ECP made it explicitly clear that no political representative is allowed to speak to television media till 12am on Election Day. Therefore, the above is violation of the code as well.
3. ECP notified of lack of convenience for disabled persons
Another important notification received by ECP was the lack of convenience for disabled persons. Several men and women were deprived from casting their votes as their ballot stations were above 22 flights of stairs that they could not cross. No facilities were provided to men and women on wheelchairs making it impossible for several to cast their votes.
4. ECP receives complain against Asif Ali Zardari
ECP also received complaints about former president Asif Ali Zardari. It was reported that voters on 72 polling stations were being forced to refrain from casting their votes. The voters issued the complaint saying that they were being forced by PPP representatives to refrain from casting their vote.
5. Woman barred from voting
PTI representatives filed a complaint against women being barred from voting. ECP received news that not only are women being deprived of their basic right as Pakistani citizens, but men are also cloaking themselves in veils and feigning votes.
More than 4000 police and army officials were called on duty to ensure the fairness and justice in voting is not compromised. Stay tuned to ProperGaanda to twitter to receive all the latest updates.
