The winning team will attend the Global Startup Weekend Women by Techstars in March 2020, where other winners from all across the world will also be representing their respective countries.

The event in Karachi was organised by tech incubator The Nest I/O, where more than two hundred ambitious women from diverse backgrounds participated to develop innovative tech companies.

Out of the 200 applications, 70 women were shortlisted to attend the event, including designers, developers, marketeers, and startup enthusiasts.

The winning team, with project Safe Nest  emerged victorious with the idea of a safe housing community for women who live alone in the city.
Second place was awarded to project CalmWalay, who pitched the idea of a reliable platform to hire household help, while at the same time providing vocational training and workshops to its staff members to help them grow.
The third place went to the team behind project Carpoolers, who proposed an app to reduce travel cost of university students.

The women participating had positive feedback about their experience at the two-and-a-half day contest.

“What inspired me to attend was the entire package that was being offered including workshops, sessions, mentoring, and coaching,” said Nashwa, who was part of team Malmal.

Another participant, Adeena Ismail, praised it was a “holistic and comprehensive experience”.

Overall, the event was well received, and everyone involved- from the contestants to the judges- seemed to enjoy themselves. Indeed, it is delightful to see a large group of women engaging in contemporary tasks outside of the household; a significant advance in women’s involvement with bringing pride to Pakistan.
