The former Prime Minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif underwent a PET Scan in London on recommendation of doctors there in an effort to diagnose his flailing health.
Sharif’s personal physician, Dr Adnan Khan on Thursday tweeted that the PML-N head underwent a PET scan at Guy’s Hospital in the London Bridge area.
Last week the doctor had mentioned that undergoing a PET scan would provider a clearer picture of the reasons behind his low platelet count and once that is established, the politician will undergo a cardiac procedure.
A positron emission topography or PET scan is an imaging test that lets doctors check for diseases via a three-dimensional scan of the body. The scan uses a special dye containing radioactive tracers which are swallowed, inhaled or injected into the part of the body being examined.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz had expressed his concern over the results of his fathers bone marrow test. He explained that these results coupled with the results from the PET scan will help guide doctors in choosing a course of treatment.
Although the Sharif family is currently seeking medical treatment in the United Kingdom, they have not ruled out going to the United States for treatment. Hussain told reporters that he wanted his father to seek medical treatment at a special hospital in America but they are going to wait for the results from British doctors.
Nawaz Sharif arrived in London on November 19th with his brother Shahbaz Sharif after the government granted him permission to travel abroad. The family has consulted with doctors in the UK for medical treatment.
