Famous Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram is a likely candidate to be the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Cricket Committee.

The former speedster is a current member of the committee. Recently, the position of chairman was vacated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim Khan.

According to sources within the committee, out of all the candidates being considered for the position, Akram is at the top of the list.

Earlier this year, the PCB decided to make the Cricket Committee an independent body by only including members who were former cricket players. Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector also left the committee following his appointment into the double role for the national side.

While the PCB is on the search for new members of the committee, it is heavily rumoured that Wasim Akram may be the only PCB representative in the newest structure of the committee.

According to sources, the PCB will be finalising the new committee within the next fortnight. The committee is also expected to be conducting it’s first meeting before the start of the Men In Green series in Bangladesh. Although the committee members will be working without any financial gain, they will be receiving allowances for hotels, participation, travel and daily expenditure.

Moreover, the committee will also have the autonomy to call upon the head coach along with other officials who are responsible for the team’s performance.
