India: The Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, cancelled his trip to India due to tensions in the Northeast part of the state. According to the Indian Foreign Ministry, Abe was to speak in the Northeast region with Narendra Modi.
Protests were being held in Assam against the new citizenship laws. Police opened fire on the crowd which resulted in two fatal causalities.
According to the new citizenship law, citizenship will be given to non-Muslim immigrants from neighboring countries. The new law lays out how citizenship will be given to six minority religious groups.
This list excludes Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and according to the protesters many undocumented immigrants will get legal citizenship.
