Tomorrow the new Chief Justice of Pakistan, Gulzar Ahmed will officially take charge. Here’s everything you need to know about our latest CJP.

At midnight tonight, Asif Saeed Khosa will retire from his post as Chief Justice of Pakistan and starting tomorrow, Gulzar Ahmed will be taking his place. The appointment of Gulzar Ahmed was approved by President Arif Alvi on December 4th.

Born on February 2nd 1957, Ahmed hails from the family of Noor Muhammad, a prominent lawyer in Karachi.

According to the Supreme Court website, his elementary schooling was from Karachi’s Gulistan School. He later went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Government National College in Karachi after which he obtained his law degree from the SM Law College in Karachi.

On January 18th 1986 he enrolled as an Advocate only to later join the High Court on April 4th 1988. Following this, he became an advocate for the Supreme Court on September 15th 2001.

Justice Ahmed was elected honorary secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association in Karachi for the year 1999-2000.

Throughout the course of his legal practice, he mostly remained on the civil-corporate side, serving as the legal advisor to numerous multinational and local companies, banks and financial institutions.
