A police man has been arrested for the attempt murder of a Deputy Inspector General with a knife at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.
According to authorities, DIG Shehzad Aslam Siddique was on a late night walk on Saturday when constable Muhammad Rafique attacked him with a knife. Although the DIG was able to resist the attack, he still sustained multiple wounds on his face, chest and hands.
Following the attack, Mr Siddique went to the quarter guard and alerted the duty officer who prompted arrested the constable and seized the knife.
The injured DIG was shifted to the Services Hospital where he was stated to be stable. Following this incident, the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station registered a case against Constable Rafique under charge of attempted murder.
Some media outlets reported that the attack was prompted by the DIG scolding the constable at an earlier time, however, the spokesman for the Deputy Inspector General Operation Lahore rejected the reports. He said Mr Siddique was not posted in Lahore and the attacker did not remain under his supervision. The DIG was living in a flat at the Police Lines. He said initial investigation suggested that the suspect was suffering from psychological problems and was undergoing some treatment.
