As the lockdown in China relaxes, construction of a $1.7 billion stadium has begun.
The stadium is to be constructed by Guangzhou Evergrande which is a Chinese professional soccer club.
The lotus flower design
With an arena intended to seat 100,000 people, it will be one of the world’s largest football grounds and is designed to look like a lotus flower.
Guangzhou is China’s “Flower City” and this is the inspiration behind the unique design.
Xia Haijun, president of Evergrande, claimed, “Evergrande Stadium will become a new world-class landmark comparable to the Sydney Opera House and Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and an important symbol of Chinese football to the world.”
Work on the stadium began last Thursday and the stadium is due to be completed by the end of 2022.
