Cricket can improve relations between Pakistan and India, says ICC’s Chairman
Chairman of the International Cricket Council has credited that Indian cricket team visiting Pakistan as a “challenging issue.” It is pertinent to know that India’s cricket team has to visit Pakistan to compete in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The 2025 Champions Trophy will be the first ICC tournament to be held in Pakistan after 29 years.
The chairman Greg Barclay, is quoted by a publication, “From what we can see, absolutely,” talking about India visiting Pakistan. ICC thinks that it would be a challenging task to bring India to Pakistan, but it is doable. Adding to his press briefing Greg said, “I cannot control geopolitical forces. I just hope cricket can be a force to improve relations between countries.” Sports have often proven to bring countries and individuals together, “If it can help in contributing to that, then it is fantastic!”
Commenting on the statements by ICC India’s sports minister said, “The home ministry will take the decision.” Anurag Thakur claimed, ” When the time will come. The Indian government will take a decision. During the international championships, all the factors are looked upon.” Anurag Thakur has also hinted at security concerns in Pakistan. He said, as “teams were attacked in the past.”
However, it would be a delight for cricket fans to witness Virat Kohli playing at the National Stadium Karachi. At the same time, cricket fans are hopeful that the Indian team will visit Pakistan in 2025 for the ICC tournament.
