Pakistan is all set to launch e-passports next year
To make things easier for residents, the federal government plans to start issuing e-passports next year.
The decision was made in Islamabad in a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed. The secretary of the interior, chairman of NADRA, DG Passport, and extra DG FIA all attended the meeting. IT advancement is being hailed as a critical step toward removing all barriers in the current manual method. It would make it easier for Pakistanis residing overseas to file online applications.
Why it matter:
Bio metric documents will ease passport control and pave the road for service automation by speeding up the identifying procedure. Each e-passport will have a microchip with all of an individual’s bio metric information. It will aid in the authentication of the traveler’s identification. On the primary page of the new e-passport, two photographs of the passport holder will be displayed.
The introduction of the e-passport service will also assist airport officials in completing the travel process in the quickest way possible.
