Islamabad court sentences 3 men to death for raping and murdering
On Apr 19, three men, named Syed Hamad Naqvi, Shah Sehwar, and Muhammad Khurshid, were sentenced to death by a local court in Islamabad for raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl in the federal capital’s Bari Imam neighbourhood. The culprits will also spend one year in jail, according to the court’s decision, and each of them will pay Rs210,000, to the deceased’s family members.
The verdict comes after a year and a half later as Judge Humayun Dilawar of the Gender-Based Violence Court delivered the 23-page verdict in the case, which began in December 2020. The suspects were not initially named in the FIR, but after witness Irfan Karim, who observed the perpetrators leaving the girl’s, came forward, and named the suspects.
The prosecution presented a dupatta on which the DNA of accused Muhammad Khurshid was found. The medical report revealed the evidence of rape and eventually the allegations against the three suspects were proven by the post-mortem report, recovery memo, and other documents.
