What happened:

The farmers in Swabi have asked the government and tobacco companies to increase the prices of cigarettes and other tobacco-related products to ensure tobacco production in proportion, as reported by TheNews. This increase on related products would mean a subsequent rise in cigarette prices in Pakistan. As the Swabi farmers demand, “the newly elected government should establish favorable markets at the local level..”

Details:

Subsequently, the farmers have also asked the tobacco companies to clear the dues of farmers and meet their farmers’ demands. However, it is pertinent to mention that the tobacco is cultivated in Pakistan and 80% of the total production is only produced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the same time, the tobacco products contribute to 135 billion rupees to the federal exchequer and 980 million rupees to the provincial.
