What happened:

Right before the season’s start, the DHA Multana administration allegedly started a tree-cutting drive, which affected the mango trees in Pakistan’s hub of mango production. TheNews and other publications earlier reported that more than 100,000 trees were cut down in Multan to pave the way for the DHA Multan. Senior journalist Rauf Klasra had earlier tweeted, “Multan & Massacre of mangoes..”

Another aspect:

Climate change has affected Pakistan drastically, and temperatures across the country have risen up to record highs. The decrease in mango production across Pakistan has also been accounted to the high temperatures across the country, as the production dropped by 60%. The whole South Asian region is facing a record-breaking heatwave. A director at the Mango Research Institute Multan, in an interview with Arab News, said, “Rising temperatures in March and April this year have severely affected mango crop across Punjab. The weather has never damaged like this in the past.”
