Federal budget introduces policies to boost Pakistan’s film industry

What happened: The Pakistani filmmakers have now been given a break, and in a bid to revive Pakistan’s entertainment industry, “Filmmakers set to get tax breaks, artists fund, and insurance.” While, announcing the federal budget for the fiscal year of 2022-2023, the federal minister of finance said, “Government is taking measures to revive the film industry in Pakistan.” 

Details: The entertainment industry in Pakistan will now get medical insurance and a five-year tax holiday, along with the new cinemas, production houses, and film museums getting a five-year income tax holiday. As Samaa News quotes, “Film and drama exports will get tax rebates for 10 years, and producers and cinema owners will be exempt from income tax.” 

More: Along with this, a finance fund of one billion rupees will be established only for films, called the Film Finance Fund. At the same time, the federal government would establish, “Artist Assistance Fund.”
