Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude kills at least 280 people in Afghanistan
According to officials, at least 280 people were killed and hundreds more were injured early on Wednesday in Afghanistan as a result of a magnitude 6.1 earthquake. The number is expected to grow as word comes in from isolated mountain settlements.
Reuters said that Pakistan has not yet reported any damage or injuries. However, at least one death has been reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to local media sources.
The majority of fatalities were in the province of Paktika, where 100 people were killed and 250 injured, according to Mohammad Nassim Haqqani, the chairman of the Taliban administration’s natural disaster ministry.
