What happened: As a part of the relief package announced by the federal government, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Hamza Shehbaz, has announced free electricity for households that are consuming up to 100 units of power in Punjab, “a move which can turn out to be a major relief for the vulnerable segments of the society.” 

Details: During a presser, Hamza Shehbaz said that the government of Punjab would bear the expenses of consumers who use up to 100 units of electricity. At the same time, he stated, “The government has set aside 100 billion rupees for the relief programme, which will benefit nine million households in Punjab.” TheNews quotes the presser as, “Thi will act as an incentive for those who use more than 100 units of electricity to save energy.” 

Another development: Punjab’s Chief minister also said, “The government will provide solar panels to the people in need so they can shift to alternate sources of electricity.”
