For the very first time in history: India’s ruling party has no Muslim representation

July 7, 2022 0

What happened: The government of Narendra Modi BJP now has zero representation of Muslim parliamentarians in their party. The development came after the Muslim parliamentarian and the Minorities Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas resigned only a day before his term as MP was scheduled to end.

Details: It is pertinent to mention that Mukhtar Abbas was the only Muslim member of the BJP party, which consists of nearly 400 MPs. At the same time, India resides 200 million Muslims, the third-largest Muslim-populated country after Indonesia and Pakistan and still fails to give representation. However, as AlJazeera quotes, This exit means the right-wing party does not have any Muslim member in the upper house of parliament as well.”

More: Quoting experts, AlJazeera writes, “Absence of Muslim representatives in the BJP’s elected ranks contradicts the party’s oft-repeated slogan; Sabka saath, sabka vikas.” Senior journalist and analyst Arati R Jerath is quoted as, “This is something new and unusual. They don’t even have a token Muslim face anymore. I guess it shows how BJP has changed now under Modi and Federal home minister.”
