Vaping is less harmful than smoking, but it’s still not safe: Hopkins Study

What happened: Michael Blaha, MD and the director of clinical research at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, is quoted by HopkinsMedicine.org as, “E-cigarettes heat nicotine flavorings and other chemicals to create an aerosol that you inhale.” Michael Blaha is further quoted saying that vaping exposes you to fewer toxins than traditional cigarettes but has its side effects. 

The side effects: The publication further quotes, “There has been an outbreak of lung injuries and deaths associated with vaping.” At the same time, it has been reported that 2807 cases of cigarette or vaping-associated lung injuries were reported in the US in 2020. She is further quoted as, “Emerging data suggest links to chronic lung disease and asthma, as well as associations between dual use of e-cigarettes and smoking with cardiovascular diseases.” Writing about the addictive nature of the two it was noted that both traditional cigarettes and vaping are equally addictive.
