On October 19, representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights informed the National Assembly that during the previous three years, 63,367 cases of violence against women took place across Pakistan.
In addition to these offences, there were also of vani (forced child marriage), custodial violence, physical and sexual harassment.
What is the ministry doing about it?
For legal guidance on violations of human rights, the Ministry of Human Rights claims that it’s running a toll-free Helpline (1099), and it even handled such matters by working with law enforcement and other authorities. According to the law, women who are having problems with rights violations can easily call this helpline for free assistance.
According to Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, the minister for human rights, the administration is committed to taking all reasonable steps to ensure the promotion and preservation of women’s rights as envisioned by the Constitution and international agreements.
