Pakistan’s 1st Women in Law Awards held in Islamabad

What happened: PTI’s member of the National Assembly, Maleeka Bokhari tweeted about the first women in law awards being held in Islamabad. Maleeka tweeted,  “We are holding the Diversity & Inclusion symposium..”  She also congratulated the female lawyers of Pakistan. The Women in Law initiative was started to increase the representation of women in Pakistan’s judiciary.

Details: Twitter users also applauded the effort. As they wrote,  “We now have a portal to bring all the female lawyers, advocates, judges together to coordinate their voices.”  Maleeka Bokhari has credited the 24th of November as a historic day in the judiciary’s history. Amnah Jabeen, a senior journalist, tweeted,  “All the women in law have a huge contribution.”  Amnah also claimed that Pakistan missed a vital opportunity to nominate the first female SC judge(Ayesha Malik). Farogh Naseem is quoted as,  “The Bar Council and Judicial Commission played a negative role in the matter of Justice Ayesha Malik’s elevation to the Supreme Court.”
