Donkey prices in Pakistan have soared to PKR 3 lakh due to high demand from China for cosmetics

Donkey prices in Pakistan have skyrocketed, reaching up to PKR 300,000, driven by increasing demand from China, where hides are used for cosmetics and medicines.

This price spike has caused a drop in local buyers at markets like Karachi’s Lehari donkey market.

Sellers say China’s growing demand for donkey hides is the key factor behind the surge.

The hides are used in various cosmetic products, and a traditional Chinese medicine, “e jiao,” is also derived from them.

With rising demand, donkeys have become a valuable asset, especially for those exporting hides to China.
