Electricity shortage takes over Pakistan: Karachi may face 17 hours of load shedding

What happened: Despite the prime minister of Pakistan’s statement that any employee found guilty of allowing load shedding for more than two hours would be fired, the K-Electric has said that Karachi may face up to 17 hours of electricity shortage. On the other hand, the Sui-Southern Gas Company has informed KE that reducing the gas supply due to the non-payment of the bills, as SSGC states that if KE remains a defaulter. 

Details: However, the K-Electric spokesperson is quoted by a local publication as, “The KE is generating 500MW of electricity with RLNG. If the gas supply stops, the company will fail to generate 500MW of electricity, leading to 17 hours of load shedding.” The residential or commercial areas and industrial areas in Karachi could also face up to 17 hours of load shedding.
