Karachi Court Denies Bail for Natasha Danish in Drug Case

What Happened: Karachi court denies Natasha Danish’s bail in a drug case related to the Karsaz road accident, despite her recent bail in the manslaughter charge.

What you need to know: On Friday, a Karachi sessions court denied Natasha Danish’s post-arrest bail application in a drug case. Danish, the driver involved in a fatal Karsaz road accident on August 19, was previously arrested for manslaughter. Her speeding Toyota Land Cruiser collided with three motorcycles and another car, resulting in the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter Amna, and injuring three others.

What more: While Danish was granted bail last week in the murder case after the victims’ family forgave her without seeking blood money, her bail plea in the drug case was rejected by a judicial magistrate. Danish’s lawyer, Aamir Mansoob Qureshi, challenged this denial before Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon. However, Judge Memon upheld the rejection of the bail plea.

Also: The decision followed arguments from both the defense and the state prosecutor. The defense argued that only one case should be filed for a single incident, while State Prosecutor Syed Khursheed Abbas Bukhari opposed the bail, stating that the case was still under investigation and the final charge sheet had not yet been submitted.

Additionally: Danish had been arrested at the scene and later tested positive for crystal meth. This led to a separate FIR being filed under the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order, 1979. Judicial Magistrate (East) Muhammad Raza Ansari rejected her bail in the drug case, noting that Danish’s lawyer failed to convince the court and that claims of sample manipulation were unfounded.
