Karachi doctor Dr Summaiya Syed aims to bring justice to every rape victim in the country

What happened: On April 3, Al Jazeera reported that a Karachi doctor, a woman medico-legal officer for 23 years, Dr Summaiya Syed, has vowed to provide justice to every rape victim in the country, and for 23 years, she has been fighting cases for rape victims as she said,  “Not everyone thought that. This is a job where you get your hands dirty.”  Details: Dr Summaiya Syed has been fighting for justice for years and said,  “Each case is a puzzling case. Our organization is responsible for conducting a complete physical examination of the victim.” Dr Summaiya’s experience in pediatrics was also shared in Al Jazeera as it quotes, “I tried my hand at pediatrics , but I was too emotional with my patients to be of any use to them.”  More: In November 2020, Dr Summaiya was appointed as the first woman Additional Police Surgeon at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and she is quoted as,  “I was posted here by some people who thought I could bring about a change in the system.”  During her time at the JPMC, she held discussions on object rape and introduced standard operating procedures for collecting samples for evidence in rape cases.
