New instructions for Hajj 2022; Women aged below will be deported if without Mahram
What happened: In the latest directive issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia, it is mandatory for women under the age of 45 to travel alongside a male guardian for Hajj in the kingdom. The directive further states that if anyone is found violating would be immediately deported from the kingdom.
Details: A local publication quotes, “The aviation authority stated that airlines involved in violating the rules will also be fined.” However, it is pertinent to mention that Saudi Arabia authorities also announced that women can now register only for the Umrah pilgrimage without a male guardian.
What else: On the other hand, Pakistan has been given a quota of 81,132 pilgrims for this year’s Hajj, and the Saudi Kingdom has also allowed up to one million people to join the hajj pilgrimage this year, finally expanding the foreign pilgrims after two years of Covid-19 pandemic.
