Pakistani Actress Mehwish Hayat Defends Ex-President Musharraf

On Wednesday, Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat came to the defence of ex-President Musharraf in the ongoing high treason case against him. Mehwish Hayat took to Twitter to defend Pervez Musharraf in the ongoing case against him regarding his imposition of emergency law in 2007. In a statement released by the former president this week, he claimed that him and his lawyers were not being given a fair trial as they were not being listened to. The former president is currently admitted in a hospital in the United Arab Emirates where he will be undergoing various tests to diagnose his illness. In the tweet, Hayat urged her fans to set politics aside in regards to listening to the case of an ailing man in court.

Following this tweet, Pakistani twitter users were abuzz with either criticisms towards the actress or support for her words. Musharraf is unable to return to Pakistan for the case against him as, according to the ex-chairperson of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Dr Muhammad Amjad, the former president is getting weaker due to an unknown illness and needs hospitalisation. When a twitter user asked the actress why she was seemingly selectively showing support for only one ailing ex-president, referring to the also currently ill Asif Ali Zardari, she replied “Nobody is above the law, all that I am saying is give him a chance to be heard at least. Guilt or otherwise is the decision of the courts.”  Keep up to date with more news at ProperGaanda: Dua Mangi Kidnappers Demand Ransom Of $0.25 Million
