PM Sharif to Finalize E-Vehicles Policy by November

What you need to know: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed that the E-Vehicles policy be finalized by November, following consultations with all federating units and stakeholders. During a meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the need to develop a detailed financial model and enhance licensing regulations for electric vehicle manufacturing in Pakistan.


What more: Sharif highlighted that promoting electric vehicles is a government priority, as they will reduce the country’s reliance on imported petrol and diesel while being environmentally friendly. He also announced plans to provide E-motorbikes to top students in government schools, similar to the laptop scheme.


Also: The Prime Minister directed the Capital Development Authority to create a comprehensive plan for electric-powered public transport in Islamabad. The meeting revealed that since 2022, 49 licenses have been issued for the production of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles locally, with 25 factories already in operation.


Additionally: The first license for domestic production of four-wheel electric vehicles was issued in September, with the first locally manufactured electric car expected to be available by December. Additionally, recharging stations for electric vehicles will be established as a priority.
