Speaking to Naya Daur, the Ministry of Human Rights said that up to 249 women and children have been subjected to domestic violence during the COVID-19 lockdown. Out of a total of 525 calls made to the Ministry’s helpline, 249 of them reported cases of domestic violence while the rest cited issues relating to health and ration. A source from the Ministry of Human Rights told Naya Daur that the complaints made through the helpline were not of severe nature and were dealt with accordingly. Lockdown has resulted in increase of domestic violence cases around the world As countries try to curb the coronavirus, domestic violence has risen up due to restricted mobility. Countries all over the world have reported a spike in number of domestic violence cases asking for help through helplines.
