‘Shocked at the previous government’s performance, but now nothing is impossible’: Shehbaz Sharif orders completion of Diamer Bhasha dam by 2026
In his visit to the Diamer Bhasha dam construction site on April 17, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “This dam will play a key role in improving Pakistan’s economy as well as irrigating its agricultural lands. However, I don’t even want to talk about the depreciation of performance in the previous three years.” Shehbaz Sharif has also directed the Water and Power Development Authority and FWO to complete the Diamer Bhasha Dam project by 2026, ahead of its timeline of 2029.
Speaking to the reporters at the construction site, “Nothing in this world is impossible; therefore, efforts to complete the Diamer Bhasha dam project by 2026 instead of 2029 should be made.” Subsequently, he added, “There is a need to think seriously about starting a powerhouse here and encouraging international investors to invest here.”
Talking about the performance of the previous Khan-led federal government, Shehbaz Sharif said, “What could be bigger incompetence than this? Be it the Ministry of Finance, Power, or Petroleum, the way almost four years were wasted gives goosebumps.”
