Time to move to Thailand? Country just decriminalised cannabis
What happened: Thailand became the first country in Asia to decriminalise cannabis, as the government has also announced tough penalties to apply to those who use it to get high. In an interview with BBC, the Health Minister of Thailand said, “We expected legal cannabis to boost the economy but have cautioned that recreational use of the drug remains illegal.”
Details: On the other hand, the deputy prime minister said, “We still have regulations under the law that control the consumption, smoking or use of cannabis products in non-productive ways.” However, the current decriminalisation would mean that growing cannabis would no longer be a crime and trading hemp and marijuana products would be a crime.
More: Along with this, the decriminalisation would mean that different cafes and restaurants can also serve cannabis-infused drinks and food, “but only if the products contain less than 0/2% THC, the plant’s main psychoactive compound.”
