Turkey’s foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu proposed a Muslim protection task force to aid Palestine in its protection against Israel. Following the recent escalations in Jerusalem and the Gaza strip due to Israeli aggression, an emergency meeting of The Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) was called to discuss safety mechanisms for the Palestinians at the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The meeting was attended by 57 Muslim member states. What was said in the meeting? Addressing member nations virtually, Turkeys foreign minister called for a financial and military support task force funded and supported by willing nations in line with the 2018 United Nations General Assembly resolution to support an unarmed Palestine against the atrocities by Israel.
It is time to show unity and determination for Palestine, and Turkey is ready to take any necessary step.
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu
He further condemned Israel’s war crimes against humanity, and called on all nations to not let their recent improved relations with Israel blur the reality. Cavusoglu added that the Muslim Ummah is looking at its leaders warily, and expecting them to take decisive action to help their Muslim brothers. All other considerations should be ignored and sidelined. Response Other nations were quick to support the idea, with Pakistan notably standing with Turkey and offering its support for the task force. Social media users across all platforms applauded the effort, calling Cavusoglu “Brave” and a “True Muslim leader”. This meeting is the first official step taken by Muslim nations, as brutality against Palestinian citizens continued for the 9th consecutive day, leading to hundreds dead, including children. The recent escalation can be stemmed to the Al-Aqsa mosque attack by Israeli Police.
