What happened : 12-year-old Selena Khawaja, the mountain princess of Pakistan, is set to embark another summit of the world’s 12th highest peak with her father, Yousef Khawaja.
Detail: Broad summit, an 8047-meter-high mountain, is located on the border of Pakistan and China. It is considered to be a very challenging summit due to the steep terrain and extreme climate. If Selena and her father successfully summit this mountain, it would set a new world record for the youngest person to climb an 8000-meter mountain Salena began the quest of mountain climbing at the age of six only. In 2019, she became the world’s youngest to climb a 7000-meter high peak. She grew up in Abbottabad with her father as her sole guardian. Her father encouraged and helped her reach her potential.
Despite a lack of sponsors, Salena has already mounted several peaks, the highest of which is Spantik Peak at 7,027m in District Shigar. In future, Selena aims to Mount Everest climb up. Her father says funds are the only hurdle for the 12-year-old. Salena is being mentored by Vannessa Obrien, a famous explorer and mountaineer of the world, who is also funding Salena on her embark.
