Najeeb Haroon has pleasantly surprised the public with his claim that he will not accept the salary traditionally afforded to MNAsĀ – and nor will he accept any of the other perks that come along with it. People are lavishing praiseĀ on Haroon for taking such a decision. Here are 3 things that will help you understand PTI’s new MNA better:
1) He Made a Promise – And He is Fulfilling It
Haroon had made the promise before he won his NA256 constituency. Part of the respect his decision is being met with is due to the fact that Haroon is also implementing the ‘true and honest’ Naya Pakistan ideal by staying true to his promises.
2) The Man is Renowned For Paying His Taxes
What’s more, Haroon surpasses everyone else in regard to the amount of taxes he pays – in 2016, he paid a total of about Rs 53.67 million. He was way ahead of even his party’s leader Imran Khan.
3) He Bowled Over MQM and PPP in Karachi
Perhaps it his considerable achievements in the business sector that gives him the necessary smarts – but whatever it is, it has managed to win people over. Although he lost against PPP previously, this time he came away with a win against both MQM’s Amir Chishti and PPP’s Sajid Hasan. Najeeb Haroon is stressing on the fact that other MNAs and MPAs should be encouraged to do the same. This is an important initiative, considering ‘the low cost of governance’ that needs to be characteristic of Khan’s Naya Pakistan. If things are to be done differently this time around, perhaps more people need to follow Haroon’s lead. If they can afford it to pass up the salary, that is – which Najeeb Haroon certainly can.
