25th July was a big day in Pakistan’s history. General elections were held and the whole country was under their spell. The Pakistani media covered the entire polling process and the results, which continued for almost three to four days. This election saw a major turn out improvement compared to previous ones. There were almost 10 crore voter registrations, a few of which made polling coverage an entertaining transmission. Here are five voters that made the Election transmission worth watching.
1. Pindi boy
Yes, our very own self-acclaimed Pindi boy made the polling process a whole ritual. Sheikh Rasheed had his vote registered in Rawalpindi and he could not have been happier about casting his vote. He was seen enjoying a heavy breakfast before. He told media reporters that it is a special day and a special day deserves a special breakfast as he slurped his tea.
2. The Wrestler
Voting is a democratic right, but some people exercised it with style. One voter from Faisalabad came to the polling station flexing his muscles. This ‘pehlwan’ stole our hearts away with his big smile. The passion he had for the polling process was indeed bigger than his bicep.
3. The Groom
One’s wedding day is the most important day in one’s life, not for everyone apparently. A groom in okara was more excited about casting his vote than his wedding (HOPE IT WAS HOT ELECTION FEVER AND NOT COLD FEET ). This voter, did not care if it was ‘the day’ and casted his vote before getting on the wedding horse. The groom said that he had to vote before getting married and we totally agree. What’s the point of changing your marital status if you did not exercise your basic right of opinion!
4. The Guy With a Special Ride
If you thought you knew what SWAG was, let me say, you did not. A voter in Vehari, came on a special ride. I will let you guess first….. I bet that the actual answer beats all your wildest imagination. A voter from Vehari came to the polling station riding a ‘wait for it’ COW. Yes, the dairy farm owner flaunted his possessions and rode a cow on the way to democracy.
5. The Traditional Pehelwaans

Other than the one bodybuilder who showed up alone, a group of traditional pehelwaans also showed up to vote with full pomp and zeal. Dressed to the nines in their traditional victory attire, the pehelwaans spared the public their kabaddi outfits. Their enthusiasm, however, wasn’t lost on the people as they entered making loud chants about their civic duty. Which enthusiastic voter is your favorite?
