8 things we know about the new DG ISPR

Major General Babar Iftikhar takes the reigns as Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) on Thursday as Major General Asif Ghafoor’s services were transferred to 40th Infantry Division Okara. As reported by ISPR, following are things we know about the new DG ISPR

  • Maj Gen Iftikhar was commissioned in 6 Lancers in March 1990.
  • He is married with four sons. Is an avid reader and golfer.
  • He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University Islamabad and Royal Command and Staff College Jordan.
  • The ISPR said Maj Gen Iftikhar has vast experience in command, staff and instruction.
  • The new DG ISPR has served as Brigade Major in an Armoured Brigade, Brigadier Staff in an Infantry Division in North Waziristan and Chief of Staff in Corps Headquarters. 
  • He’s commanded an Armoured Brigade and Infantry Brigade in North Waziristan (Operation Zarb-i-Azb). 
  • He also served on the faculty of Pakistan Military Academy and National Defence University Islamabad. 
  • Maj Gen Iftikhar was presently commanding an Armoured Division before being appointed as DG ISPR
