What happened: The FIA had arrested 1160 people in 95,567 complaints they received in regards to sexual harassment, online fraud, blasphemy and hate speech. 95,567 complaints were only received from Punjab as the highest number of complaints were regarding sexual harassment. Details: 32% of the complaints were regarding sexual harassment, 25% were of financial fraud, 23% social media abuse, and 10% blasphemy. It is pertinent to mention that 32% of sexual harassment cases involved doctors, lawyers, university students, businesspersons and politicians. Mainly, the businessmen and bankers of Faisalabad, Sialkot and Lahore were among the complaints. Also: Express Tribune reported that the women complainants withdrew numerous complaints as they pardoned the suspects. Among 1160 arrested by the FIA Cybercrime wing in fraud cases, only 28 people were sentenced as 552 challans were submitted. On the other hand, a report by The News revealed that cybercrime in Pakistan increased by 83% during the last three years, and it was disclosed that Cybercrime peaked in Pakistan during the Covid-19 lockdown.
