German Embassy Hosts Screening of international Tango Documentary

The German Embassy in Islamabad, in collaboration with the Marriott Hotel Islamabad, hosted a screening of INTERTANGO, a documentary by German filmmaker Hanne Weyh. The screening was followed by a Q&A session with Ms. Weyh and an open dance floor where guests also enjoyed a short introductory lesson for Tango beginners. Mr Jan Gerald Krausser, Head of Communications, Cultural Affairs and Protocol at the Embassy, welcomed the guests in his opening remarks. The German Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Ina Lepel, highlighted the importance of intercultural exchange: “When you mention Tango, few people would think of Germany or of Pakistan and yet INTERTANGO demonstrates in an impressive way how this beautiful dance and the emotions which come with it connect humans from Berlin to Karachi and from Buenos Aires to Milan.” The evening was further enriched by the presence of Tango enthusiasts from the city as well as by an active participation from people from diverse walks of life. About the Film: INTERTANGO explores Tango as an intercultural phenomenon and a means of overcoming cultural barriers. Filmed in Berlin, Karachi, Buenos Aires and other cities worldwide, the documentary offers an intimate insight into the “emotional adventure trip” experienced by its protagonists: Naoko from Japan, who becomes a Tango DJ in Buenos Aires; Iftikhar from Pakistan, who was “infected” by Tango and began teaching it in Karachi; Mila and Rodrigo who strive to balance their careers in Tango with their private lives and aspirations.
