What happened: The Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi issued an order on October 17 which directed suspension of police officers and employees of Nishtar Hospital due to their blatant disregard for unidentifiable bodies. Details: On October 14, decomposing dead bodies were found at the rooftop of Nishtar hospital in Multan which led the government to open an investigation into the matter. The visit: The Punjab chief minister instructed his adviser Chaudhry Tariq Zaman Gujjar to make a surprise visit to the hospital and submit a report after assessing the situation after learning about claims of abandoned bodies on the hospital roof. Four sets of mostly decomposed human remains were discovered on the roof, according to an NMU official. What else: The chief minister further ordered for action to be taken against irresponsible employees under the PEEDA Act since such treatment of corpses is unacceptable.
