What happened: One of the worst kinds of floods that hit Pakistan has left devastating impacts, as some parts of Ranikot Fort in Jamshoro have collapsed due to flash floods. Chief Minister Sindh was updated regarding the damage, “the old walls were already vulnerable and could not withstand the onslaught of the recent heavy downpour…” More: It is pertinent to mention that the historical Ranikot Fort is believed to be the world’s largest fort, with a circumference of nearly 32 kilometres, and the report submitted to CM Sindh quotes, “The walls of the fort have collapsed due to landslides and some of them washed away in the area of Mohan Gate.” What else: Due to the flash floods in Pakistan, the World Bank has estimated that floods have caused damage of nearly forty billion dollars. The floodings were made worse by climate change resulting in almost 1800 people killed and more than 32 million affected, as the floods have washed away more than two million homes.
