What happened: Following a raid by Punjab police last night, the Islamabad High Court on May 24 ordered police and the administration to stop harassing PTI politicians and workers. Details: IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah ruled during a hearing on the PTI’s case against the current national crackdown and detentions of its workers ahead of the Azadi March that the court cannot issue rulings based on mere concerns or fear. The hearing: The case was heard by the IHC following raids on the homes of PTI officials in numerous cities, including Karachi and Lahore, as PTI claims hundreds of its activists were imprisoned. Barrister Ali Zafar, PTI’s lawyer, asked the court to limit arrests to which Justice Minallah inquired if the party submitted an application to the district administration. Barrister Zafar responded to the question by saying that they had made a plea to the district magistrate for the rally on May 25. The ruling: The court issued orders to the Islamabad inspector-general of police, chief commissioner, and deputy commissioner, prohibiting the authorities from harassing PTI workers.
