People staged protest at Karachi Press Club to demand #JusticeforNazimJokhio

What happened: On Apr 19, many people staged a peaceful protest outside the Karachi Press Club against the police and the Sindh government’s alleged backing of Nazim Jokhio’s murderers.  Details: The participants demanded an open inquiry into the Jokhio murder case and the prosecution of those responsible. The event was organised in response to a demand by the Women Action Forum. Civil society activists carried posters with inscriptions such as “Justice for Nazim Jokhio.” They also asked for the deceased’s family to be supported and inquired why Shireen Jokhio, Nazim’s widow, had to back off from the investigation. Speakers argued that if police is messing up the case, they are also an accomplice in the murder. What you need to know: Lawyer and activist, Jibran Nasir, stated that he was not present to criticise the government of Pakistan People’s Party, “We want to encourage PPP workers and supporters to ask the leadership questions and stick to the party’s old traditions,” he added. Asad Butt of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission, Anis Haroo of the National Human Rights Commission, Karamat Ali of PILER, and others spoke out, demanding that the government bring justice to the family and show interest in pursuing the case. The feudal rulers of Sindh, according to participants, are in charge of this, “The PPP is a murder league, not just restricted to one Nazim Jokhio,” they said.
