8 children, 1 woman killed and 145 houses burned down in Mehar fire tragedy

What happened: On the night of Apr 19, eight children and a woman were killed in a fire in Faiz Muhammad Chandio village, situated in Dadu, which also burned down 145 houses into ashes and claimed lives of 150 animals which included cows, buffalos, and goats.  Details: The fire broke out in the kitchen of a house and spread quickly due to strong winds, engulfing all other buildings one by one within 10 minutes. According to the affected households, the fire erupted about 9 p.m. on Monday and burned through the village for the following 12 hours, which falls under the authority of the Faridabad police station. According to the villagers, no fire tenders arrived till the fire diminished around 8 am today. Villagers’ account: After the flames in and around his house subsided, Imamuddin Chandio said he retrieved the burnt bodies of his three boys, More, aged 16, Rasheed, aged 10, and Alam, aged 9, while his 4 year-old daughter, Nargis, suffered severe burns.  Villager no.2: Bahar Khan stated the incident killed his two kids, Abdul Rasool, aged 13, and Hussain, aged 5, as well as his daughter, Sawera, 10. He said that his 40-year-old wife, Mota Khan, suffered significant burns while attempting to save their children. According to him, the fire also claimed the lives of 30 of his buffaloes, cows, and goats. Many other villagers’ herds perished as well, he noted. Villager no.3: Zaman, the 10-year-old son of Ikram Chandio, and Tehmina, the five-year-old daughter of Rustam Chandio, were also killed in the fire.
