Muslim US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar lands in Pakistan today

What happened: Muslim US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar arrived in Islamabad today on her first visit to the country, during which she will meet with the country’s top officials. During her tour, the politician who grew up in a refugee camp and made history by becoming the first Somali-American elected to the US Congress, is set to visit Lahore and Azad Kashmir. Details: Omar recently spoke against Islamophobia in Congress as she questioned when Biden will oppose the ongoing Muslim genocide in India. She is also a strong opponent of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy in Indian-controlled Kashmir.   What else: The congresswoman is also a frequent target of right-wing groups, most notably for a video she shared of people singing hymns glorifying Prophet Jesus Christ on a domestic American aircraft, “I think my family and I should have a prayer session next time I am on a plane. How do you think that will end?” hinting towards treatment of Muslims in the west.
