Doctors in USA denied heart transplant to 31 year-old man, saying he’s not vaccinated against Covid-19

What happened: On Jan 25, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston denied a request for heart transplant by DJ Ferguson in the United States, stating that the patient is not vaccinated against Covid-19, and it’s against their policy. Details: Ferguson’s father, David, claims that his son is in a ‘dire need’ of the surgery but has been taken off the waiting list. He further added that Covid-19 vaccine contradicts his son’s “fundamental principles” and he “doesn’t believe in it.” A spokesperson from the hospital responded to this, saying, “Given the shortage of available organs, we do everything we can to ensure that a patient who receives a transplanted organ has the greatest chance of survival,” confirming that Covid-19 vaccine, and lifestyle behaviors for transplant candidates ensures both; the best chance for a successful operation and the patient’s survival after transplantation.  Ferguson’s condition: According to a GoFundMe page, Ferguson has been in the hospital since Nov 26, 2021, and he has a hereditary heart condition that causes his lungs to fill with blood and fluid. A father of two with a third on the way, Ferguson is still in the hospital, according to his family who claims he is too frail to be transported to another hospital, and he is “running out of time.”
