School name to be restored after social media backlash

What happened: Sindh Government took notice to restore the original name of the Malala Yousafzai Government Girls Secondary School on Karachi’s Mission Road after social media users demanded the government to protect the city’s history . Malala’s father also responded to the demand and urged the government to take notice of the issue.

Details : School was originally named Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School after a Gujrati social worker. However, the school was renamed after Malala Yousafzai on February 6, 2012. Sanjay Sadhwani had earlier tweeted regarding the matter, stating: “Stop playing with history.” He said it was inappropriate to change the name of the school and asked the government to restore the school’s original name.

Ziauddin Yousafzai, Malala’s father, reacted to the news and said that the school’s original name must be restored. “We are bound to respect our history.”
