War of words between Russia and UK over Black Sea warship incident

What happened: As the war of words escalates between Moscow and London as both Russia and UK accuse each other of inaccurate accounts for the incident of warship in the Black Sea.

Background: As Russia summons the UK ambassador, London call’s Moscow’s version of incidents “predictably inaccurate.” The United Kingdom disputes Russia’s account of the incident and claims that no warning shots were fired and no bombs were dropped over the HMS defender. Instead, the United Kingdom has suggested that a Russian gunnery exercise had been taking place in the area. UK’s Foreign secretary further stated that “The Royal Navy ship was conducting innocent passage through Ukrainian territorial waters. We were doing so in accordance with international law and the Russian characterization is predictably inaccurate.” However, on the contrary, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova accused the UK of lying regarding Wednesday’s episode of events.
