What happened: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has offered to give vaccinated travellers over the age of 50 a 10% concession in airfare. The discounted fares will come into effect from 10th June and can only be availed on domestic flights.
Bigger Picture: This is part of the government’s campaign to administer the Covid-19 vaccine quickly and efficiently. The NCOC forum made it mandatory for all employees of the public sector to be vaccinated by 30th June. Moreover, they have started to introduce incentives to try and encourage people to get vaccinated and implemented sanctions for those who refuse it. As part of their three-part strategy to contain the disease they have also announced walk-in vaccination for individuals above 18 and kept vaccination centers open 6 days a week.
